Information in this document applies to any platform.
With non-binary multiple size blocks (e.g. 6k, 10k) RMAN compressed backups can contain corrupted and/or missing blocks. This can occur with any non-standard block size and any RMAN compression setting.
There are no errors on the compressed backup, but restore or restore validate will show following error:
channel ORA_DISK_1: validation complete, elapsed time: 00:00:16
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03002: failure of restore command at 06/07/2010 13:10:29
ORA-19660: some files in the backup set could not be verified
ORA-19661: datafile 1 could not be verified
Databases with binary multiple size blocks (e.g. 2k, 4k, 8k, 16k) are not affected by this issue.
Workaround or Resolution
Patch for bug 9789190 should be applied as noted in the Patches section. This bug is fixed in 11.2, as part of bugfix 6623413.Following apply of patch, new full compressed backups should be taken. Older compressed backups are not usable and should be uncataloged.
