=== ODM Question ===
Can RMAN restore from a backupset copied from tape to disk when the backup was created directly to tape by RMAN?
Solution
=== ODM Answer ===
When RMAN creates a backup directly on tape, it's header will be
different than a backupset created by rman to disk. Thus, if that tape
backup is manually copied to disk, RMAN will not recognize the backupset
header and will report it as corrupted.
Example of such errors would be:
ORA-19624: operation failed, retry possible ORA-19587: error occurred reading 0 bytes at block number 1 ORA-27091: skgfqio: unable to queue I/O ORA-27067: skgfdisp: size of buffer is invalid Additional information: 2 ORA-6512: at "SYS.X$DBMS_BACKUP_RESTORE", line 1371 ORA-6512: at line 24
