Symptoms

11gR2 GI runInstaller reports the following error:

SEVERE: [FATAL] [INS-08106] Unexpected error occurred while loading the view 'GridPlugPlayInfoUI' associated to state 'GridPlugPlayInfoUI'.
  CAUSE: No additional information available.
  ACTION: Contact Oracle Support Services or refer to the software manual.
  SUMMARY:
      - java.lang.NullPointerException.
Refer associated stacktrace#oracle.install.commons.util.exception.DefaultErrorAdvisor:458
INFO: Advice is ABORT
SEVERE: Unconditional Exit

Cause

Multiple bugs opened for this issue: bug 9321203 bug 9632373 bug 9526635 bug 9270442, but they all closed as "not a bug" due to invalid entries in /etc/hosts file

Solution

In this case, the following is in /etc/hosts file:

127.0.1.1              racnode1

After change it to the following, the issue went away:

127.0.0.1       localhost.localdomain   localhost
