Cannot find WSOCKETS.DLL Error in Risk Manager After New Client Installation [ID 1268578.1]

Information in this document applies to any platform.


On OFSA 4.5.39 after a new client install, when attempting to login to Risk Manager, the following error occurs.

File Error

Cannot find WSOCKETS.DLL

VSL version: 3.0.11

An error has occured in the networking software, check log file: C:\MSOCKLIB.TXT


As error has occurred in your application.
If you choose Ignore, you should save your work in a new file.
If you choose Close, your application will terminate.

OFSRM caused a General Protection Fault in
module SQL16W95.DLL at 0001:139F.

Choose close. OFSRM will close.

The same error occurs logging into SQL*Plus 3.3.


The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

1. Installed 16 bit part of OFSA suite for 4.5.39. installed TCP/IP using vendor and chose first one on the list.
2. Installed 4.5.39 32 bit apps, modified tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora, ofs.ini.
3. Trying to log into Risk Manager and get error about cannot find SOCKETS.DLL.


Incorrect TCP/IP vendor selected during the first attempt at 4.5 client installation.


To implement the solution, please execute the following steps:

1. Launch the 16-bit ORCA installer.
2. Uninstall OFSA 16-bit client software. Be sure to manually delete the orawin directory if not deleted after uninstall.
3. Launch the 32-bit Installer.
4. Uninstall the OFSA 32-bit client software.
5. Reinstall OFSA 4.5 16-bit software and choose correct TCP/IP vendor.
