The error message :

The opatch minimum version  check for patch /oradata/patches_oracle_software/13696242_GI_DB/13696224 failed  for /product/11gR2/db_1
Opatch version check failed for oracle home  /product/11gR2/db_1
Opatch version  check failed
update the opatch version for the failed homes and retry

Cause : upgrade also the OPatch from the Oracle database software .

OPatch Version Check Failed While Applying 11.2.0.2 GI Bundle Patch [ID 1308858.1]

Symptoms
While using OPatch 11.2.0.1.5 to try to apply an 11.2.0.2 GI bundle, OPatch fails with the following errors:


# opatch auto /u01/app/grid/stage/10157506

OPatch 11.2.0.1.5 is a valid OPatch version to use when applying 11.2.0.2 GI bundles


Cause
In this specific case, the 11.2.0.2 GI bundle patch was unzipped in /u01/app/grid/stage and the following files/directories were unpacked:

Earlier GI bundle patch README.html states the following:


To patch GI home and all Oracle RAC database homes of the same version:

#opatch auto <path to 11.2.0.2 GIBUNDLE>
As this instruction is not 100% clear, the customer executed the following which is wrong:


# opatch auto /u01/app/grid/stage/10157506
Later GI bundle patch README.html will have the following instead:


#opatch auto <UNZIPPED_PATCH_LOCATION>

Solution
Apply the 11.2.0.2 GI patch bundle by running this command:


# opatch auto /u01/app/grid/stage
NOTE: The above command is just an example. If the 11.2.0.2 GI patch bundle is unzipped in a different directory on your server, you need to pass that directory name to the 'opatch auto' command.
